Former Labour Broxtowe MP Nick Palmer has apparently signed on at his local Job Centre Plus.
Given that he’s a mathematician with a PhD, you’d think he might be able to pick up work somewhere without the state’s help.
He admits freely, of course, that he just wants to see how the system works – but why bother if you’re not an MP anymore?
My guess is that Palmer does not give the coalition Government much of a life and actually thinks he‘ll get a chance to fight his Broxtowe seat again sometime soon. He only lost it by 389 votes to Tory Anna Soubry.
The election battle between them was mired with accusations of underhand tactics – the spreading of political falsehoods and even some more sordid rumours.
It was made that little bit more intense by the fact that Palmer and Soubry actually live opposite one another on the same street – the stuff of sitcoms.
Needless to say, the two candidates are not necessarily best friends.

i do hope he is available for work
Like Parliamentary expenses, it's there for the taking. How could he not resist more free money?
He just got 60,000 payout for existing parliament like all MP's do. How can he be allowed to sign on unless he has lied about his savings. That or he has blown the money already.
As he has had a parachute payment signing on only gets his NI paid until the loot runs out.
It is an insult to people who have lost real jobs, that this **** has been allowed to sign. Yet more pressure on the government to amend the terms for allowing unemployed persons to sign on.
Just shows how "useful" the average dumb lobby fodder, nodding dog ZaNu Labour MP is.
What a shower.
No, if he paid a Class 1 NI stamp he'll be entitled to contribution-based JSA for six months. Though you'd think he's have the decency not to bother.
Check out his activity on politicalbetting.com over many years. You would think he had more faith in his prowess as a punter.
Where does he live? I'll shit on his doorstep for you if you like.
So, he'll get to be treated as a criminal for not having one of the jobs that don't exist because of three decades of misrule. Good. Hope they shit all over him. when he is sent on a pretend 'training' course I hope his fellow unemployed smash his face in.
What, pray, is a "collation" Govt?
What a waste of public money, but there again what does expect from Labour Mp's. Oooops sorry ex Labour Mp's ;-)
I am so glad this man is on the scrapheap...
