Keep your chin up Oxford

Lobbydog is particularly upset at the job losses in Oxford today.

I was born and bred in the city, my Granddad lived in Cowley and my uncle worked at the factory - where they now build minis - most of his life.

A sad day for the city, but an ominous sign of things to come.

Dear Mr Lobbydog,

I see that most of those effected were "temporary" workers, but that many had been employed there for years, 5 in one case.

This would appear to be a somewhat cynical way of getting round the employment regulations. Is this practice widespread amongst major employers?

I totally agree with that statement. The Country is bankrupt and the hardship has yet to really kick in. If only we could have a change of Government before Brown's scorched earth policy is completed.
